Ga is for Gaijin
As a continuation of the alphabet exploration through prints, the topic was taken up in Montypes. This is the word Gaijin. The word Gaijin is one that is thrown around so much by Japanese society it is terribly sad. If one asks what it means, they will be told it means foreigner, but that is not the case. In the Japanese language there are many different words for foreigner, there’s one for Koreans, Chinese, even one for African American people, gaijin means white person when it all boils down. Literally is means strange person, but if one stays in Japan for a long time on must get a gaijin card or foreigner card. The subject matter is a white girl with a dunce hat on with the American flag on it. This category of people is what the gaijin label boils down to in the end, made to feel stupid and inferior. It is not a nice term and like many aspects of Japanese society will never be addressed as it is underlying and unconscious.
